VOICES of an ORCHESTRA – being elsewhere
Part One – The beginning
This extraordinary new work takes us on a spiritual journey as experienced by a small travelling orchestra. Their music narrates a diversity of emotions from a variety of encounters with people, spirits and much more … Sometimes they play reactively and on other occasions during the experience.
It’s curious. It’s exciting. And it’s an adventure.

Synopsis:
♫ Wandering above the mist
A powerful introduction when the orchestra meet in a gallery to stand before Freidrich’s great painting. They philosophise then begin their journey. Full orchestral piece of immense strength and sensitivity.
♫ Knowing truth in soliloquy
The orchestra begin to bond and discuss what is truth. Other instruments join the classical guitar as it explores the ideas discussed in this charming melody with a ‘lifting’ chorus.
♫ Amongst those who love and dance
They encounter friendship in a market place. So of course they have to dance! Mexican theme celebrated with a variety of instruments. Uptempo and a must to dance to!
♫ Nearing God’s Heart
Then there is a need to rest. They find a garden where they wonder if “You are nearer to Gods Heart in a Garden than anywhere else on earth”. Flute leads the discussion in a work of intrigue and enchantment.
♫ On the Eighth Sea
An anxious time at sea. The full orchestra, although beginning and ending with the hint of a rascally sea shanty, celebrates the vastness of the oceans.
♫ Finding Tears in Raindrops
A mood of despair and thoughts of the frailties of human nature are paramount. Bad weather threatens morale and the bassoon explains it all perfectly.
♫ Boulevard
Fortunately as they stride ashore the following morning a sense of being alive overwhelms everyone. The accordion with great confidence continues the good mood and life blossoms again! Humorous waltz.
♫ Depths in His Garden
And then they find another wonderful garden! The flute (again!) wants to be involved and does admirable work in delving into the mysteries of Mother Nature and much more… Perhaps paying homage to Coat’s Sleepy Lagoon?
♫ Searching for a Heavenly Path
A sombre mood but with a feeling of hope for the future that persuades the cello to consider what the Wanderer Above the Mist may perceive from his great vantage point. The composer’s favourite piece!
♫ When Music Speaks
The orchestra agrees that music is their way forward and celebrate in harmony as they reach nearly the end of the journey. The French horn leads the chorus and orchestra in this lovely haunting work
♫ Wising up to the Fear of the Lord
And finally a visit to a large Gothic Cathedral where the nature of Enlightenment is celebrated by the Organ drums and electric guitar as classical meets rock. Very unusual piece.
But there has to be more. The Voices will speak again for of course the journey is not yet completed …
